“People say it takes a village to raise a child— it also takes a village to support parents.

In 2019 as newlyweds, in the midst of preparing for graduation, we found out we were expecting a baby. And although children are a blessing, we had very real concerns and fears about stability and support. We didn’t know if we’d be able to manage working, school, and pregnancy.

Thankfully, we both graduated and are still living out our dreams, and we know we couldn’t have done that without the support of our family, friends, and Howard community.

Parenthood changed us, but it didn’t take away our drive or close the door for opportunity— and it never should.

This is our way of paying it forward, for every mom and dad who will walk on Howard’s campus and know that they didn’t make it in spite of their child, but that they’re doing it with their child, for their child, for those before them and the generations yet to come.
